Barry Prizant, PH.D., CCC-SLP – Join us for this live interactive webinar, where Dr. Prizant discusses the use and functions of echolalia and other forms of unconventional verbal behavior. This presentation will review different perspectives, definitions, and approaches to both assessment and communication and language development.
Many autistic and neurodivergent children and older individuals demonstrate the use of echolalia, and other forms of unconventional verbal behavior. There continues to be discrepancies in how such forms are used, whether they are functional, and how they should be approached in efforts to enhance communication. In this presentation, different perspectives, definitions, and approaches to both assessment and communication and language development will be reviewed. Specifically, the perspective that will be taken focuses on understanding the functions of such forms and how they relate to the process of language development. Strategies for responding to such forms will be considered.
