Ross Greene, Ph.D. – A live-stream ZOOM webinar (with Q&A’s) – Moving from Power and Control to Collaboration and Problem Solving (including Autism, Anxiety, Attention Deficits, Behavioral Issues, & More!). If you are a special education teacher, speech & language pathologist, OT, social worker, administrator, counselor, general education teacher, paraprofessional, psychiatrist, psychologist, therapist, nurse, or parent this conference is for you!
In this two-day intensive training, Dr. Greene will instruct educators and mental health clinicians on how to engage kids in solving the problems that affect their lives. The CPS model is based on the premise that concerning behavior occurs when the expectations being placed on a kid exceed the kid’s capacity to respond adaptively. Rather than focusing on concerning behaviors (and modifying them), the model places emphasis on identifying the expectations the kid is having difficulty meeting (called unsolved problems) and solving them.
Participants will learn how to use the Assessment of Lagging Skill and Unsolved Problems (ALSUP). Participants will also learn the ins and outs of solving problems collaboratively (Plan B) rather than unilaterally (Plan A). Dr. Greene will provide extensive discussion of the three steps of Plan B: (1) the Empathy Step, which involves gathering information from the child so as to understand what’s making it hard for them to meet certain expectations; (2) the Define Adult Concerns step, which involves entering into consideration the adult concern or perspective on the same unsolved problem; and (3) the Invitation step, which involves having caregivers collaborate with kids on solutions that are both realistic and mutually satisfactory.
Dr. Greene will also address ways to deal with the roadblocks commonly encountered when implementing the CPS model. Lecture, practice sessions, and video demonstrations will be utilized as means of instruction.
This is a practical strategies seminar!
During these two full days of training, extensive recommendations designed for specialists and classroom teachers, to help students succeed in the academic environment, will be provided. Participants will take home numerous useful tools and creative ideas to use the very next day. Regular-education teachers (as well as special education teachers and support staff) will find the information presented invaluable. Strategies presented will allow regular education teachers to utilize approaches within their own classroom.
Who should attend?
Special Education teachers, Speech and Language pathologists, OTs, counselors, regular education teachers, administrators, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, PTs, principals, nurses, parents, and anyone who works with someone on the autism spectrum, ADHD, bi-polar, or other learning disabilities. This conference is open to anyone who wishes to attend. No prerequisites are required. Please contact AEP Connections with questions.
This webinar will be recorded; however, it is not a recording that can be downloaded and replayed at your own pace. Day #1 will “replay” as a recording on Saturday, April 26th, beginning at 8 am Pacific Time. Day #2 will “replay” as a recording on Saturday, May 3rd beginning at 8 am Pacific Time. Participants may attend the full recording “replay” or log in for parts of the replay to make up for any time that is missed during the live webinar. Speaker
Ross Greene is the originator of the innovative, research-based model of intervention now known as Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) as described in his influential books The Explosive Child, Lost at School, Lost & Found, and Raising Human Beings. Dr. Greene served on the faculty at Harvard Medical School for over 20 years, and is now on the faculty of the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech and on the Faculty of Science at University of Technology Sydney in Australia. His research has been funded by the Stanley Research Institute, the National Institutes of mental health, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Maine Juvenile Justice Advisory Group. He lectures and consults extensively to families, general and special education schools, inpatient psychiatry units, and residential and juvenile detention facilities throughout the world.
