Sarah Ward, M.S., CCC-SLP – Join us for the live interactive webinar, as Sarah brings a deeper understanding of treatment interventions for developing executive function skills using case studies. Intended for participants that have attended the Foundations Course and/or the Master Class by Sarah Ward.
If you have heard Sarah present before you know her lectures are packed with both theory and many practical strategies to implement in school, clinic, and home settings! But what does a course of intervention look like for a student? In this presentation Sarah will present case studies to show you how to choose and implement executive function interventions to help students learn and generalize strategies and progress towards independent, strong executive function skills. There will be tips on motivating children and teens to engage in therapy, methods for incorporating executive function strategies into the classroom, and approaches to engaging teachers, who in turn, can naturally infuse strategies into their classes. Sarah will briefly review the student’s relevant testing and academic history. Then she will guide you with the process of selecting strategies for improving executive function skills and teach you how to progressively apply them. Strategies to coordinate the implementation and carry over of strategies from the school/clinic to home will be provided. Take your executive function program to the next level! Elementary and high school case studies will be provided. Regardless of the age student you work with you will be able to visualize your own students within the example case studies and relate to the challenges experienced by the student, educator, and parents. Adapt the strategies and use them in your own course of intervention for students.

Special education teachers, SLPs, OTs, counselors, general education teachers, administrators, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, TAG teachers, PTs, principals, nurses, parents, and anyone who works with someone on the autism spectrum, ADHD, bi-polar, or other learning disabilities or has executive functioning deficits.

This Webinar will replay as a recording on Saturday, November 11th beginning at 8 am CENTRAL Time. This is not a recording that can be downloaded and replayed at your own pace. All registered attendees will receive a link to the live webinar and a link to the recording replay on Saturday. Full attendance will be taken during the replay and will still qualify you for a certificate of attendance and other professional development opportunities listed. Sarah Ward, M.S., CCC-SLP
Sarah Ward has over 25 years of experience in diagnostic evaluations, treatment and case management of children, adolescents and adults with language learning disabilities, nonverbal learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, executive dysfunction, Asperger’s disorders and social pragmatics. Her particular specialty is in the assessment and treatment of executive function deficits. Ms. Ward holds a faculty appointment at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions where she provides instruction to graduate level students in the assessment and treatment of individuals with traumatic brain injury and other cognitive communication disorders. A popular speaker, Sarah regularly presents nationally and internationally on the topic of executive functions to a variety of professional and parent organizations, school and lay groups. She has presented to and consulted with over 450 public and private schools in Massachusetts and across the United States. Awards received include the MGH Expertise in Clinical Practice Award, the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Faculty in Excellence Award from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions (2002, 2011).

Some of these materials will be referenced in the presentation. Many of these materials can also be purchased at local stores. The website also sells treatment programs and games to develop independent executive function skills. In addition, the website offers many free resources and references. Objectives
- State the functional working definition of what is meant by the term “executive function skills”as it pertains to therapeutic interventions.
- Read formal and informal assessments and know 3 key features to look for that inform how the student is able to think in an organized way for effective task execution.
- Based on a given profile presented in a case study, identify which treatment interventions would be effective to improve:
- Situational awareness, self talk and forethought
- Self regulation and following routines
- Task Management: Planning, organizing, prioritizing, initiating and completing tasks on time
- Active self-management of the factors related to the passage of time
- Student management of materials
- Name at least 6 resources for tools, apps, worksheets, websites, etc. that can be used in intervention sessions

NBCC
